Pure (Covenant #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Release Date ~ April 3, 2012
Spencer Hill Press
ISBN13: 9780983157229
ARC received from publisher for review
Goodreads Synopsis:
There is need. And then there is Fate...

Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her.

When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon... and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude... or killing her.

When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

Jennifer never ceases to amaze me with her writing and her books. Ever since the Covenant series was released last summer (Daimon, Covenant #0.5) she's managed to take the book world by STORM. One thing I really love about her books is that they're consistent, everything I love about them is found in each of her books yet they all stand out on their own. Pure is no exception to this at all!
Pure incorporates all the elements I loved about Half-Blood, and then cranks up the intensity even further! The romance is even better (who knew THAT was possible?!), the stakes are higher, and the story more emotional.
  1. The boys are hot:
You can't mention a JLA book without pointing out the sizzling romance; Jennifer just has this uncanny knack for writing mind-blowing chemistry between her characters. Romance isn't anything unique or new to YA books, but Jennifer writes it as one of the best in the genre. And Pure doesn't leave any of this out, continuing on with where Half-Blood left off.
  2. More development:
Seth fans will be happy because we finally get to know this mysterious character that was only very briefly introduced in Half-Blood. Aiden fans will be happy because we get to see some new sides of his own complex character. Alex fans will be happy because she really grows and changes in Pure; the events of Half-Blood had an incredible impact on her, and Pure is truly a growth period for her. Plus, we get to see a bit more of Jennifer's world building in Pure as well.
  3. Don't forget the action:
I love the Covenant series because it features so many well-written and exciting action scenes. You just can't put these books down, and Pure featured quite a few of these. Pure doesn't shy away from any of these, as it has some of the best action sequences I've read in YA books.
Pure is such an intoxicating read, and it's a perfect fit to a series that has quickly become one of my favourites! It's wonderful, absolutely addicting. This is a phenomenal series and I for one personally cannot WAIT for Deity to come out! Anything Jennifer writes is an absolute must-read for me.

Waiting on Wednesday {10}

see this lovely picture? It was made by Lindsay at The Violet Hour. Thank you so much for letting others use it!

Jill @ Breaking the Spine hosts this weekly meme where we can share a book that we are so excited for and are anxiously awaiting their upcoming release!

This week my WoW pick is...

Pure (Pure #1) by Julianna Baggott!

After looking at the books I read and love, it really shouldn't be much of a secret that I have a bit of a newly discovered love affair with dystopian novels. And even though Pure isn't set to be released until February 2012, I'm already hearing amazing things about it. So, this week I am going crazy with anticipation over Pure - let me share the Goodreads synopsis with you to give you a little taste of what this fab novel is about:

We know you are here, our brothers and sisters . . .
Pressia barely remembers the Detonations or much about life during the Before. In her sleeping cabinet behind the rubble of an old barbershop where she lives with her grandfather, she thinks about what is lost-how the world went from amusement parks, movie theaters, birthday parties, fathers and mothers . . . to ash and dust, scars, permanent burns, and fused, damaged bodies. And now, at an age when everyone is required to turn themselves over to the militia to either be trained as a soldier or, if they are too damaged and weak, to be used as live targets, Pressia can no longer pretend to be small. Pressia is on the run.

Burn a Pure and Breathe the Ash . . .
There are those who escaped the apocalypse unmarked. Pures. They are tucked safely inside the Dome that protects their healthy, superior bodies. Yet Partridge, whose father is one of the most influential men in the Dome, feels isolated and lonely. Different. He thinks about loss-maybe just because his family is broken; his father is emotionally distant; his brother killed himself; and his mother never made it inside their shelter. Or maybe it's his claustrophobia: his feeling that this Dome has become a swaddling of intensely rigid order. So when a slipped phrase suggests his mother might still be alive, Partridge risks his life to leave the Dome to find her.

When Pressia meets Partridge, their worlds shatter all over again

Are there any books that have you giddy with excitement while you wait for their release? Are you as excited for Pure as I am? Leave me a comment and tell me about it! :)
