Waiting on Wednesday {36} The Merciless

Jill @ Breaking the Spine hosts this weekly meme where we can share a book that we are so excited for and are anxiously awaiting their upcoming release!

This week my WoW pick is...

The Merciless by Danielle Vega
Release Date ~ June 12, 2014

Synopsis:

Forgive us, Father, for we have sinned

Brooklyn Stevens sits in a pool of her own blood, tied up and gagged. No one outside of these dank basement walls knows she’s here. No one can hear her scream.

Sofia Flores knows she shouldn’t have gotten involved. When she befriended Riley, Grace, and Alexis on her first day at school, she admired them, with their perfect hair and their good-girl ways. They said they wanted to save Brooklyn. They wanted to help her. Sofia didn’t realize they believed Brooklyn was possessed.

Now, Riley and the girls are performing an exorcism on Brooklyn—but their idea of an exorcism is closer to torture than salvation. All Sofia wants is to get out of this house. But there is no way out. Sofia can’t go against the other girls . . . unless she wants to be next. . . .

In this chilling debut, Danielle Vega delivers blood-curdling suspense and terror on every page. By the shockingly twisted end, readers will be faced with the most haunting question of all: Is there evil in all of us?

So I've been meaning to do a new WoW post for AGES and when I went to pick a book for this week, I had such a hard time choosing! There are so many great books coming out soon... but I quickly picked The Merciless!

I've been craving more scary books lately - but they can be so hard to find in YA. And I love that The Merciless considers the question of innate evil. That's a hotly debated topic, and I'm incredibly curious to see how The Merciless tackles such a tough question.

Also, I think this cover is so neat! Wouldn't it really pop on a bookshelf??

I'm curious - will any of you be picking up The Merciless? Or a story like this just too much horror for you? Anyone else interested in reading more scary books?
And here's a really tough question - are some people just born evil? Is there a little bit of evil in all of us? I'm not too sure myself... but I think there might be.

New November Tales

While every other blog seems to have their own post for this, I decided to do one myself highlighting some exciting new reads to be released this month!

This isn't a comprehensive list; but simply, the books I am most looking forward to this month! Note that some of them may have already been read by me, if an advanced copy was available. :)

I've read Crossed, Shatter Me, Darker Still, Legend, and Touch- all are TOTALLY worth buying! I recommend you purchase/pre-order ASAP, and you can check out my reviews for the ones posted by clicking on the book title above! I'm going to be reading Destined soon and really excited for it, as Pysche and Eros (Cupid) is my favourite Greek myth! And after reading Blood Rights in October, I'm ecstatic that Flesh & Blood it out so soon- my curiousity in that series has been piqued!

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

This book, right here, is probably one of the most highly anticipated upcoming releases. Everything about it is just so intriguing. I'm so excited for this one.

Mara Dyer doesn't think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.

It can.

She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.

There is.

She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love.

She's wrong.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer hits stores everywhere 9.27.11. Pre-order your copy here. Download the widget here. Enter to win an Advanced Reader’s Copy here.

Waiting on Wednesday! 7/13

(see this lovely picture? It was made by Lindsay at The Violet Hour. So thanks to her for sharing it!)

Breaking the Spine hosts weekly "Waiting on Wednesday" for books that haven't been released yet but we are anxious for!

Okay, so I'm a bit obsessed... but really, how can you resist a recipe for groosling?

Besides, there are no more books and the movie isn't released until 2012 so I need my fix!

Release Date: December 1, 2011

I'm probably most excited for this one right now. I have my signed copy pre-ordered and I can't wait! The prequel is on my Kindle too.

Release Date: October 18, 2011

Goodreads Synopsis:
The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi pure-bloods have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.

Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:

Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.

Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

Besides these two, I have some of sequels I'm excited for:
Fever (Chemical Gardens #2) by Lauren DeStefano
Pandemonium (Delirium #2) by Lauren Oliver
Crossed (Matched #2) by Ally Condie
