Crossroads Review & Giveaway!

Today, I have something really special for all of you.

A few months ago, I was lucky enough to win a giveaway on Goodreads for Mary Ting's YA paranormal Crossroads. It's a great book, that's been receiving plenty of hype (for good reason).

Crossroads was originally self-published, but is now being published again for a traditional publisher. To celebrate with Mary, I will be posting my review, an interview with Mary, and a giveaway!

Today I'm sharing my review of Crossroads with you (to give you a taste of what it's about) as well as starting a giveaway for a copy of Crossroads.

On the same night of her friend’s tragic death, Claudia Emerson encounters another world, Crossroads, through her dream. There, she learns about a mix breed of angels and humans, who possess supernatural powers. Among those with these powers, lies evil, known as the fallen. Mystified by her ability to enter this place called Crossroads, certain that the fallen will be after her, she is assigned a guardian angel named Michael. Aden, the fallen leader, is convinced that Claudia holds the key to help destroy Crossroads. Her dream becomes a nightmare as more secrets are revealed, about who she really is, and the true identities of the people she loves most.

4/5 Stars

It's another spin on the angel/human supernatural YA genre, but this one is nice because it's about more than fighting a villain and forbidden romance.

This is a good YA book which I was pleasantly surprised by. Ting writes well, and since this is one of her first published books I'm sure she'll only get better.

There were times when I was less interested in Claudia as a character since she felt almost too perfect. Michael was a far more intriguing character for me, as Ting hints at his past and it becomes evidence that he's a rather complex character. As well, the plot is very black and white and simple but that may change in future sequels.

The relationship between Claudia and her Gamma was truly touching and made me tear up! Easily the best part of the book in my eyes. Claudia's relationships with others (besides Michael) really played out well, and I enjoy reading books where the main character is involved with people outside of their romantic interest. It really adds depth to their personality and the story.

Now, for the giveaway...

Mary has very graciously offered a new, signed copy of Crossroads, as well as a Swarovski crystal heart necklace (did you know she makes jewellery too? Talk about talented)! The necklace is shaped like Michael's wings, which are on the cover of the book. And one of the best parts? This giveaway is INTERNATIONAL. Seriously, we need to give Mary a big thank you for that one!

Winners will be announced on August 15, when I post my interview with Mary.

Thanks a ton for the giveaway. I look forward to reading it. I haven't read an angel book in a long while. This should be a welcome change :)
