Blog Tour: The Hunted

As my second post for the blog tour for Kristy Berridge's The Hunted, I have a very cool guest post from Kristy herself! If you missed it, make sure to check out my review for this exciting paranormal book! Today Kristy's sharing some music that would go on her playlist for The Hunted along with some excerpts to give you a little taste of what you can expect from the book! :)

 ~
Music can play such an integral role in a writer’s momentum. Often the beat we hear is the speed in
which our fingers move across the keypad, the words an inspiration, and the instruments the steady
background pulse we use to tune out all distraction.

Unfortunately, I’m not one of those writers! I find that any noise at all during the creative process is a
terrible distraction and my concentration levels plummet. However, that’s not to say that I don’t feel
the music as I write. I may not pump the volume through my speakers, but I certainly imbue a certain
mood within all aspects of the novels and hear the words inside.

Now that The Hunted is finished, as well as the other four books in the series – The Damned, The
Aligned, The Condemned , and The Delivered, I can sense a soundtrack to all of them. Even some
excerpts within the stories themselves invite some sort of melodic accompaniment.

This is what I want to share with you today, excerpts from The Hunted and an insight into the sort of
music that inspires my words. Enjoy …

Kristy :)

Excerpt 1 – Nickelback’s ‘Faraway’ – This is Elena’s first encounter with William

My hands continued to weave through the air around my head in time with the music, my hips
gyrating suggestively. I rolled my hips around and turned to face the gap in the throng, my eyes lifting
from the sand as if commanded and resting upon a man in the distance.
That was the first time that I saw him.
He was leaning casually against a palm tree with one jean clad leg crossed in front of the
other. Even from this distance I could see that his arms were corded with muscle, folded across his
chest in a gesture of self-assurance. His head was cocked slightly to the side, emphasising the
chiselled squareness of his jaw. He was watching me dance, the heat of his gaze upon me, all but
melting my skin.

Excerpt 2 – Evanescence ‘Made of Stone’ – Elena and William caught in a showdown with an Alpha
Werewolf. Who will be victorious? It’s never who you may think …

I turned and looked at William standing beside me. He was transformed. The change had been
instantaneous and because I’d been distracted, I had missed it. He had removed his shirt and tossed it
onto the roof of the car. As a human he’d be well-muscled and pleasing to the eye but in his Vampiric
form there was no denying that I could not take my eyes off him. William’s skin was as pale as the
snow, verging on transparent. Blue, blood-filled cords entwined their way around his muscles,
encircling his entire body, including his face, the veins eerily visible just beneath the surface of his
flesh. His fingernails had grown and were now long stiff talons, as black as the very depths of his
eyes. His canines were drawn, like sharp white knives that brushed against his lower lip. He was the
Devil Incarnate, but he was beautiful, even as more monster than man.

Excerpt 3 – Breaking Benjamin ‘Dance with the Devil’ – Elena struggling with her connection to the
Alpha male of the werewolf packs.

He leaned in close to me again and brushed his nose along the side of my jugular, taking
deep, lingering breaths. For a brief instant his tongue flicked out and caressed the flesh of my neck,
something deep within me responding. Horrifyingly, I could feel heat rising within me, my blood
boiling slightly under his touch and the scent of his skin so close to mine making my skin prickle with
anticipation.
What the hell? Am I … excited?
John leaned away from me, my whole body momentarily devastated by the break in contact.
He had a satisfied smirk on his face, his eyes black as pitch and teeth were drawn ready to take their
fill. I should have been terrified, I should have been screaming my protests in every undesirable word
I could think of, but for some strange reason all I wanted was for him to get close to me again.

He silently obliged by leaning forward again, but he did not go for my neck. Instead, he
dipped his head down towards my thighs, his head tilting to the side and watching me as he sniffed
lightly at the air. A smile spread across his face as he closed his eyes and inhaled deeply. Then he
lifted his head back up to mine again and touched my slightly parted lips with his own.

I love learning more about authors, especially how they work. It's so interesting how some people need music in the background while others can't work with it.

These were great choices - the songs really fit the excerpts.

The writing was great- I loved the characters.

I love those songs! Can't wait to listen to them while reading the book. Luckily, I already have the second & third song, I like listening to Breaking Benjamin & Evanescence.

Wow these are some intense songs. They make me really want to pick up the book so I hope it matches their energy.

Wow. I love it when books are associated with music! The Hunted is such an interesting read. Also, the three songs are great for the scenes!
